↑ Repurposing Off-Patent Drugs | Does metformin slow human aging in people without diabetes? [draft]
Metformin is taken by roughly 60 million people with an excellent safety record. Animal and observational data hint it may slow aspects of aging and delay age-related disease. The proposed TAME trial (Targeting Aging with Metformin) has struggled for funding precisely because the drug is generic and unpatentable. Open question: in non-diabetic older adults, does metformin delay the onset of age-related conditions versus placebo? Fund a randomized trial to find out.
